EAA Chapter 174 TALESPINNERS Mike Franzago Shakes on the Deal for "K" Model (See "The Great Journey")
From the President
I don't know if anyone realized it or not (I apparently didn't), but I didn't submit an article last month. I guess I was 'bummed' after writing the previous month's article. Well, OK, no more 'poor me' articles. My kit will continue at a snails pace unless somebody comes along and buys it for more than I'm worth. Hasn't the weather been great lately? Mark Webb and I got in a cross-country to Kalamazoo and Bob Porter and I went zooming all over southwestern Ohio at the speed of heat in Don's RV-6 and had nothing to deal with except smooth air and no wind. A little hazy but hey, you can't have everything. There's a lot of aviating going on nowadays. If you haven't checked out our website lately and have some experience with composites, maybe you should. Orion Aircraft of Butler Co. Regional airport is looking for a 'few good men'. They are looking for help (paid) in developing molds for their composite canard homebuilt. Parts and kits to be assembled right there at Hamilton. Check out the website or call me if you have questions. Speaking of websites, Norm has been nominated again for recognition in designing and maintaining our website with EAA National. If you have time to check out other chapter websites, I think you'll agree and be proud of our website as a truly exceptional and worthy site, and we have Norm to thank for it. If you want to be active in our chapter, you really need to check out our site frequently. There isn't much happening in aviation in our area, including weather, that isn't mentioned on our site. Next month is July and guess what that means... yea that's right and if anyone needs a place to stay and would like to share the cost of a motor home that's already there... air conditioned, shower, booze, food, girls (well... not really), let me know. Here's an interesting tidbit you might be interested in (is that a double positive??)..anyway, I was looking at a hangar neighbor's RV-9 project that is about ready to fly - in about half the time I've got invested in mine (anger, pain, disappointment) - and I stumbled upon a beautiful Cessna 195 that has been passed around Hamilton airport, hangar to hangar like a lost jezebel, and it's for sale. The lady that owns it bought it for her husband, who later died tragically of cancer at a young age and I think she really doesn't know how to handle it's disposition. It has an overhauled engine and prop, plus a spare engine and it's really in nice shape, even though it hasn't been annualed in about 5 years. I've offered to fly it to Oshkosh this year and sell it if she will get an annual, but selling it here would be a lot easier for her. If anyone is interested in a pretty 195 - polished aluminum with yellow and black trim, nice interior and instrument panel - let me know. This airplane will be a cream puff with just a little TLC. As far as business goes, our next meeting will be July
21 with a board meeting prior. Attendance at the board meeting is
open to anyone wanting to come. This meeting will be a final
meeting/briefing on Oshkosh/Airventure 2002. Tom Jenkins may have a
couple new proposals or at least ideas for a chapter hangar that are
really interesting, so don't miss it. See you there.
Minutes from the June Chapter Meeting An informal chapter meeting was held during our chapter breakfast on the morning of June 15, 2002. The meeting was called to order at 10:15 am by president Scott Hersha. Approximately 8 members from the Piqua chapter (Hartzell) flew in and were our guests for breakfast. Officer and committee reports were given. The treasurers report follows: checking account $195.75; savings account $1392.74; CD $6382.59, for a total account balance of $7971.08. Secretary Norm Beaudette filed the appropriate paperwork, paid the appropriate fees, and has secured our status as an Ohio corporation. Application for 501C3 tax exempt status continues in a methodical manner. Consideration is being given by the board to seek professional help with our application. Phil Cady thanked all who helped make our first Young Eagles rally of 2002 successful. 97 Young Eagles were introduced to general aviation on June 8th. It was decided that the remaining storage closet upstairs in the clubhouse would be cleaned out prior to one of our flyouts when enough members are present. The planned program was to be a presentation of an innovative modification to an RV-6 canopy, but because of bad weather to the north the guest couldn't make it. The meeting was adjourned at 11:00 am. Scott Hersha (for the Chapter Secretary)
