neighborhood to build and fly a manned vehicle to just over 100 km twice
within 14 days, and you could win a cool 10 million bucks! Check

 | Quick and Easy Great Circle Distances.
Last year, AirNav.com added morning
and evening civil twilight times to their airport information pages - a
nice convenience for early morning and late evening flights. Did
you know that you can also get great circle distances between any two
airports? Just find the page for the destination airport, then
look just below the map or airport picture at the upper right of the
page, and type in the airport identifier for the departure airport.
Click Calculate Distance and the page will display the great circle
distance in nm (just below the map/picture).

 | NASA Aviation Safety Reporting System
(ASRS) Forms on Web Site. NASA's
ASRS web site now
provides a convenient location for downloading that all-important
Form ARC
277B for reporting a safety situation/event. If you think you
may have inadvertently caused an unsafe aviation circumstance, this is
the form you'll want to use to "fess up". All pilots should become
familiar with the benefits of this important program. Advisory
Circular 00-46D
describes the program. Note that all identifications on the form
are eventually removed and anonymity is assured. Note also that
the form does NOT provide immunity in the case of a reportable accident.
Finally, members should be aware that this form as well as many other
useful forms are available on the EAA website, on the
Government
Relations page. Contributed by Norm
Beaudette. |

 | AirNav.com
Reports Civil Twilight. Want to make sure you're legal
for night flight? Remember that qualifying night flights must
occur between evening civil twilight and morning civil twilight.
Now you can get daily civil twilight hours on every airport page in
AirNav.com. Click here to see the page for
Clermont County (I69),
and look over to the right of the page, under the airport photo.

 | Photo ID: Don't Fly Without It.
Remember the acronym ARROW: Airworthiness, Registration, Radio license
(no longer required), Operating manual, and Weight and balance?
Well now you can add either G, P, or I (Government, Photo or ID) to
those letters. (You decide where.) As of October 28th, it is
now a violation of FAA regulations to fly an airplane without a
government-issued photo ID. The new ruling falls under 14 CFR Part
61. Read the
exact ruling here. |

 | Chapter 174 Receives Official 501(c)(3)
Recognition! On July 15th, 2002, the IRS granted our
Chapter tax-exempt recognition under section 501(a) of the Internal
Revenue Code as an organization described in section 501(c)(3).
The recognition opens the way for receiving donor tax-deductible
donations to further the future growth and development of the Chapter.
Congratulations are in order for Stu Faber and Norm Beaudette for
pursuing the application to a successful conclusion! Norm
anticipates putting together a committee, later in the year, to oversee
the important, ongoing supervision of our charitable status, and to
ensure that we consistently comply with IRS requirements. Anyone
interested in joining the team is encouraged to call or
e-mail Norm. |
