David
Gallagher's Zenith 601 is flying!
Here are a few shots out the window during
Monday's [Aug 11] flight. Dave now has more than 5 hours on
his Zenith and about 15 landings, including one on a grass strip.
In the first picture you can see that he is passing a yellow Piper
Cub that took off in front of him at the grass strip.
Congratulations, Dave!

Chapter
174 and Build A Plane Program Cited in Plane & Pilot Magazine.
Our Chapter received recognition in the December issue of Plane &
Pilot magazine for its support of the "Build A Plane" program, making a
difference in the lives of area kids who want to get involved in
aviation and aircraft construction. The article, by Lyn Freeman,
mentions chapter members Tim Fry, Tom Jenkins, Wayne Messmer, and of
course Hal Shevers, for their strong involvement in the program, which
is sponsored by Sportys, Chapter 174 and Aviation Explorer Post 78.

 | FAA Guide for Aging Aircraft.
The FAA has published a guide for maintaining aging GA aircraft.
Both EAA and AOPA, as well as other industry groups, collaborated with
the FAA to publish the guide. If you are the registered owner of
an aircraft produced prior to 1975, you should be receiving a free copy
from the FAA. You can also download the guide now (in PDF format),
using
this EAA link. You can also get a quick primer by reading
this
article published in the September edition of AOPA Pilot. |

"Perhaps
never in the history of aviation has it been so critical for pilots
to observe the highest level of professionalism in the planning and
execution of their flights. The country is watching, and depending
on us more than ever to exhibit the professional skills and maturity
that are the requisites of our special freedom..."
